It´s summer clearance sale, and for about the first time in my life I went on a planned summer sale shopping spree, hunting down some simple, light, basic blouses. Newspapers say the racks are full due to the bad weather most of the summer so far and also the economy crisis, so I thought I would give it a try. Usually, finding something in my size – s or xs – is quite difficult at this time of year, but they were right, I had plenty of choices, and also in my favourite diamond colours. What a nice surprise!
Within one and a half our at the second storey of my favourite department store I easily found the desired blouses, in my favourite colours pink, rose and turquoise, and also tops in pink, rose and grey, each to go with every blouse, so it´s a perfect mix and match! Shopping can be so nice at times! What´s more, each of this blouses will go with my current bottoms, consisting of a white shorts, white cargopant, wide, grey linnen pant, white stretch jeans, a black jeans, and my sewed blue skirt also. Oh, the possibilities…
What I´m still desperately longing for, though, is something more “edgy” than just this ubiquitous jeans-and-blouse-style. If you can call this a “style” anyway. It´s urban chic, but a little bit boring, I think. I tried on some other blouses with some current details like wrapped this, gathered that, empire waist and dropped empire waist (which sits in the middle of nowhere – now what type of figure would look good in that?!), but besides the necklines being virtually plunged to the navel, which I don´t consider appropiate for the office, they didn´t even look good on me either. Sigh. I guess current fashion just doesn´t suit my bodytype. But still, on the one hand I long for something more stylish than what I wear currently, on the other hand I don´t have the guts to wear something really unusual. Isn´t there a happy medium? But what, and where to find (and afford)? Not in a department store anyway, I guess. – Quite often I see a model in the BWOF or elsewhere with an interesting style detail, but seldom do I get to the point to actually make, much less wear it. I really have to try harder, making a quick muslin of such things, to find out if it would suit me anyway. I am constantly searching for styles interesting enough to make a difference, but also easy to blend into my quite ordinary life. Now where is the good fairy if you need one?!
Parting shot: Sunset, as seen through our sleeping room window. I always thought that the plain northern area of Germany would be quite boring, but the wide sky and the ever changing clouds, transient as they are, outweigh my beloved green hills and valleys of the west quite beautifully. It´s a dutch master painting every evening here for free, and quite often we will just stand in the french windows watching the sunset.
